Other common names: Abyssinian/Black-billed Blue Spotted Wood-dove
Taxonomy: Chalcopelia abyssinica Sharpe, 1902, Kokai, Eritrea.
Forms a superspecies with T. chalcospilos, with which has been considered conspecific. Monotypic.
Distribution: S Mauritania and Senegambia to Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria, and E through N Cameroon, N Central African Republic to Eritrea, Ethiopia, N Uganda and extreme NW Kenya.
