Taxonomy: Dicaeum haematostictum Sharpe, 1876, Guimaras, Philippines.
Forms a superspecies with D. australe, and sometimes considered conspecific; D. retrocinctum possibly part of same superspecies, but differs in several characters. Proposed race whiteheadi (described from Mt Canloan, on Negros) considered not distinguishable from birds elsewhere in range. Monotypic.

Distribution: Panay, Guimaras and Negros, in WC Philippines.
