Taxonomy: Porzana fasciata P. L. Sclater & Salvin, 1867, near Caracas, Venezuela.
Sometimes placed in Laterallus, which it resembles in voice, but pattern of primary moult differs from that of Laterallus and is similar to that of A. castaneiceps. Species formerly known as L. hauxwelli, as name fasciatus erroneously thought to be incompatible with the older species name of Rallina fasciata. Monotypic.
Distribution: S & SE Colombia S to E Ecuador and E Peru, and E across W Amazonian Brazil to R Purús.
