Other common names: Golden-spectacled Warbler (when combined with S. burkii, S.tephrocephalus, S. omeiensis, S. whistleri and S. soror)
Taxonomy: Cryptolopha burkii valentini E. J. O. Hartert, 1907, Taibai Shan, Qin Ling Shan, Shaanxi, China.
Formerly treated as conspecific with S. burkii, which also included S. tephrocephalus and S. whistleri, and the populations recently described as S. omeiensis and S. soror. All of these, however, exhibit constant differences in morphology, vocalizations and mitochondrial DNA. Name “latouchei” has been erroneously applied to S. soror. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- valentini (E. J. O. Hartert, 1907) - breeds C China (Shaanxi, S Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan).
- latouchei Bangs, 1929 - breeds SE China (Hubei, Fujian, Guangdong) and N Vietnam.
