Thornbills (Acanthizidae)
Biak Gerygone (Gerygone hypoxantha) - HBW 12, p. 599
French: Gérygone de Biak
German: Biakgerygone
Spanish: Gerigón de la Biak
Other common names: Salvadori’s Gerygone
Taxonomy: Gerygone hypoxantha Salvadori, 1878, Misori (= Biak Island), Geelvink Bay, New Guinea.
Taxonomy unsettled; often regarded as a race of G. magnirostris, but seems quite distinct in having yellow in plumage, and confined to a long-isolated island with many other distinct endemic taxa. Reported occurrence on Biak of a gerygone (possibly female) similar to G. palpebrosa needs to be evaluated, but this is probably the same as birds allegedly similar to G. chrysogaster but with long bill; both are thought likely to refer to present species. Monotypic.
Distribution: Islands of Biak and Supiori (in N Geelvink Bay), in NW New Guinea.
