Taxonomy: Crypturus berlepschi Rothschild, 1897, Esmeraldas, Ecuador.
Until recently considered race of C. cinereus, but now separated on grounds of ratio of toe and tarsus lengths, longer, heavier bill and conspicuous plumage differences. Monotypic.
Distribution: NW Colombia to NW Ecuador.
