Taxonomy: Otis bengalensis Gmelin, 1789, Bengal.
Genus sometimes merged with Eupodotis, but differs notably from all other bustards except Sypheotides indica in showing reversed sexual size dimorphism. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- bengalensis (Gmelin, 1789) - patchily along border of S Nepal with India, and into lowland NE India.
- blandini Delacour, 1928 - S Cambodia and S Vietnam (apparently non-breeding only; breeding grounds unknown).
