Taxonomy: Margarornis bellulus Nelson, 1912, Cerro Pirre, 4500 feet [c. 1370 m], near head of Río Limón, Darién, Panama.
Anatomical data are consistent with the idea that this genus and Premnornis, Premnoplex and Roraimia are each others’ closest relatives; various authors merge one or all of those into present genus. Sister-species to M. squamiger, and very likely conspecific. Monotypic.
Distribution: Cerro Tacarcuna, Cerro Mali, Cerro Pirre, Altos de Quía and Serranía de Majé, in extreme E Panama.
