Taxonomy: Bucco dubius J. F. Gmelin, 1788, Mopti, Mali.
Forms a superspecies with L. rolleti; both are also closely related to L. bidentatus. Monotypic.
Distribution: W Sahel from N Senegambia and Guinea-Bissau E to SW Chad, S to Guinea, C Ivory Coast, C Ghana, Togo and Benin, C Nigeria, C Cameroon and NW Central African Republic.
