Taxonomy: Merops Leschenaulti Vieillot, 1817, Java; error = Sri Lanka.
Relationships unclear. Three subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • leschenaulti Vieillot, 1817 - S India and Sri Lanka; N India and Nepal E to SC China (Yunnan) and Indochina and Malay Peninsula.
  • andamanensis Marien, 1950 - Andaman Is and nearby islands of Great and Little Coco.
  • quinticolor Vieillot, 1817 - Java and Bali W into S Sumatra.
