Taxonomy: Rallina pœciloptera Hartlaub, 1866, Viti Levu, Fiji Islands.
Sometimes placed in Rallina or even Rallus. Forms superspecies with N. woodfordi, with which may be conspecific. Monotypic.

Distribution: Viti Levu and Ovalau, S Fiji. Almost certainly extinct on Taveuni, N Fiji.
