Taxonomy: Recurvirostra leucocephala Vieillot, 1816, Victoria.
Reported to show morphological and behavioural similarities to flamingos (Phoenicopteridae), but probably not significant (see page 332). Monotypic.
Distribution: Australia, mainly in S & C inland areas, particularly C Western Australia and South Australia.
