Taxonomy: Rallus Paykullii Ljungh, 1813, Banjarmasin, Borneo, and Jakarta, Java.
Sometimes placed in genus Rallina; further study of relationships required. Monotypic.
Distribution: Russian Far East (SW Amurland and S Ussuriland), NE China (Heilongjiang, Hebei and N Henan) and Korea. Winters in SE Asia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo. One specimen from Basilan, Philippines, is a Rallina fasciata.
