Taxonomy: Fulica flavirostris Gmelin, 1789, Cayenne.
Formerly listed as P. parvus, but this name preoccupied. Sometimes placed in Gallinula or Porphyrula. Monotypic.

Distribution: E Colombia through CS Venezuela to the Guianas and S to E Ecuador and N Peru E across NC Brazil; SE Peru, N Bolivia, W & C Brazil and C Paraguay to extreme N Argentina; also extreme SE Brazil.
