Other common names: Mountain Duck, Chestnut-breasted Shelduck
Taxonomy: Anas tadornoides Jardine and Selby, 1828, New South Wales.
Sometimes placed in genus Casarca, together with T. ferruginea, T. cana and T. variegata. Considered by some to form superspecies with T. ferruginea, T. cana and T. variegata. Hybridization with T. ferruginea and T. cana, and also with Anser indicus, reported in captivity. Monotypic.
Distribution: SW and SE Australia, Tasmania.
