Other common names: Dusky-backed Shearwater; Bannerman's Shearwater (bannermani); Persian Shearwater (persicus); Baillon's Shearwater (bailloni)

Taxonomy: Pufflnus [sic] Lherminieri Lesson, 1839, Antilles.
Sometimes placed in P. assimilis; often includes P. heinrothi. Races bannermani and persicus may be distinct species. Race P. assimilis boydi often ascribed to present species. Ten subspecies normally recognized.
