Taxonomy: Alauda grisea Scopoli, 1786, no locality = Gingee, South Arcot district, Tamil Nadu, India.
Relationships uncertain. Sometimes considered to form a superspecies with E. leucopareia, but often regarded as close to E. nigriceps. Monotypic.

Distribution: Pakistan (R Indus plains), and from S Himalayan foothills E to E Bangladesh and S to S tip of India, also Sri Lanka.
