Taxonomy: Herpsilochmus parkeri Davis and O’Neill, 1986, 15 km north-east of Jirillo, San Martín, Peru.
Considered to be part of the H. pileatus clade, also including H. sellowi, H. atricapillus and H. motacilloides. Monotypic.

Distribution: E slope of Andes in NC Peru (San Martín).
