Arabian Babbler (Turdoides squamiceps) - HBW 12, p. 216

French: Cratérope écaillé German: Graudrossling Spanish: Turdoide Árabe
Other common names: Brown Babbler(!)

Taxonomy: Malurus squamiceps Cretzschmar, 1827, Aqaba, Jordan.
Individuals of this species observed from E Yemen to S Oman apparently not yet assigned to race. Three subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • squamiceps (Cretzschmar, 1827) - extreme NE Egypt (Sinai), S Israel, and SW Jordan S to C Saudi Arabia.
  • yemensis (Neumann, 1904) - SW Saudi Arabia and W Yemen.
  • muscatensis Meyer de Schauensee & Ripley, 1953 - E United Arab Emirates and N Oman.
