Taxonomy: Charadrius Dominicus P. L. S. Müller, 1776, Hispaniola.
Forms superspecies with P. fulva, with which formerly considered conspecific (see page 386). Monotypic.
Distribution: W Alaska E through N Canada to Baffin I. Winters in South America S to Tierra del Fuego.
