Taxonomy: Psittacus Eupatria Linnaeus, 1766, Gingi, India.
Some of currently accepted races may be representative of clines, with race nipalensis particularly weak. Five subspecies currently recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • nipalensis (Hodgson, 1836) - E Afghanistan and Pakistan E through N India to Bangladesh.
  • eupatria (Linnaeus, 1766) - S India and Sri Lanka.
  • magnirostris (Ball, 1872) - Andaman Is.
