Taxonomy: Platalea alba Scopoli, 1786, Luzon, Philippines; error, Cape of Good Hope.
Considered by some to form superspecies with P. leucorodia, P. minor and P. regia. Monotypic.

Distribution: Senegal to Ethiopia, S to Cape Province; Madagascar.
