Taxonomy: Haematopus moquini Bonaparte, 1856, Cape of Good Hope.
Has been considered conspecific with H. meadewaldoi or with H. ostralegus, or both. Monotypic.
Distribution: N Namibia S to Cape of Good Hope and E to E Cape Province, South Africa. Species recorded NE to KwaZulu-Natal and N to 12° S in Angola (Lobito), but only as vagrant.
