We saw several individuals of this ssp, but all seemed to be females. Perhaps males and females feed at different altitudes during the non-breeding season. All the individuals of this ssp seemed to feed in this flower, Palicourea demissa, which is flowering abundantly in this season along the Humboldt trail.
