This species is uncommon and usually unpredictable in Venezuela. However, in the last few weeks it has become abundant in the Macarao National Park near Caracas at 1700 m altitude feeding in Melastomatacea and other trees. Nobody from our group of very experienced birders had never seen it perched before. We were lucky that a band of some 20 birds landed in front of us.
