Taxonomy: Catarrhactes chrysolophus Brandt, 1837, Falkland Islands.
Sometimes considered to include E. schlegeli (see page 140); more often these two treated as superspecies. Known to have hybridized with E. chrysocome. Monotypic.
Distribution: S Atlantic and S Indian Oceans, mostly on islands of subantarctic, but breeding in small numbers S to Antarctic Peninsula.
