Taxonomy: Anas Crecca Linnaeus, 1758, Europe.
Sometimes placed in genus Nettion. Forms superspecies with A. flavirostris. Race carolinensis sometimes considered full species. Three subspecies recognized.

- crecca Linnaeus, 1758 - most of N and C Palearctic.
- nimia Friedmann, 1948 - Aleutian Is.
- carolinensis Gmelin, 1789 - most of Nearctic.
