How to find missing species

We have been receiving a common query lately: Where can I find a list of species without material? On the IBC there are several ways to view these missing species.

For more than one hundred countries, we already have checklists online that you can sort and filter to generate a list of species of that country without material. You may have noticed that we have been announcing the checklists in the news, but you can simply go to a country’s page to see if the checklist is enabled (we will have them for the entire world very soon).

Another way to generate these lists is taxonomically. In each family, you can use the sort and filter options to create such a list of species. Here you can see some more information.

Finally, and given the great efforts that all of our contributors are making, we have created a page listing all species without videos, photographs or sound recordings for faster consultations.

Don’t hesitate to share these pages with your friends if you think they can fill in some gaps. But remember that all materials are welcome, especially if they are good quality, well documented, of not yet represented subspecies, uncommon plumages, interesting behaviours, etc.!
